RECLAIM, RECYCLE, SAVE!
When replacing an existing roof, Brand New Roofing will where applicable endeavour to keep costs down and preserve limited stone and slate stocks by working to reclaim & reuse existing roof coverings. We recycle by carefully removing the existing slates / tiles before grading and storing them. They are then relayed on a new waterproof membrane / treated timber battening on a separate elevation from matching new slates / tiles to maintain a consistent look across the roof.

BASE MATERIALS
We use fully weather-treated tantalised timber throughout our roof construction and employ a high-quality breathable membrane in place of traditional roofing felt. This modern, waterproof material allows water vapour to escape and so requires no ventilation of the roof space, reducing condensation and heat loss.

The vast majority of heat loss from your property escapes through the roof. Quality roof insulation reduces wasteful heat loss, saving you money and helping to make your home warm and welcoming. During the hot summer months it helps to keep your property cool. Brand New Roofing uses Triso Super 10 Roof Insulation, a high-tech multifoil insulation which is up to 5 times thinner than traditional insulation whilst maintaining the same level of performance. It is perfect for attic rooms and loft conversions where it allows maximum living space whilst ensuring a warm, hospitable environment.

Brand New Roofing always uses non-ferrous fixings throughout. This helps reduce nail sickness & degradation, and ensures a longer lifespan for your roof and less fallen tiles in high winds and extreme weather.

SLATES AND TILES
Depending on the area your property is situated in, whether you want your building to make a bold statement or to blend in with its’ surroundings, there is a huge choice of slates and tiles available. Traditional quarried stone and slate, clay tiles and modern cast concrete alternatives all come in a selection of finishes and sizes.
Traditional finishes and materials include local Cotswold Stone Slates, Pembrokeshire quarried Slates, Welsh Blue, Grey and Red Slates, Cornish, Cambrian, Scottish & Irish Slates. Cotswold Stone Slates are a traditional local material and are a premium quality roof slate often used for heritage projects within Conservation Areas. 500 million year old Welsh slates come in a variety of colours [see above] and are one of the hardiest roof slates in the world, have been used to cover some of the world’s most famous Victorian buildings and offer a sympathetic, natural look to any property.

Imported slates & tiles from places such as India, Spain, North America and Brazil offer their own colours and characteristics. Vibrant, emerald Vermont Green Slates or rosy, terracotta-pink Truthville Red Slates are hard wearing North American materials which can give a statement property a distinctive look.
Imported Indian Slates offer a variety of intense distinctive colours from the rich, deep purple/pink of Kund Peacock to the clean, bright Himachal White. Cost-effective reproduction slates can produce a convincing heritage look whilst using modern production techniques, and come in a range of finishes and designs to reflect any Conservation Area or property style. Many varieties (including Reproduction Cotswold Stone Slates & Bradstone Conservation Slates) come in batches of varying size and are laid using a Diminishing Course Technique which produces an authentic look replicating that of traditional cut stone.

Plain Tiles, in traditional clay or mass-produced concrete, can be laid vertically or on elevations with a gradient over 40 degrees, and come in a range of decorative ornamental styles and colours. They offer an effective, decorative solution to Dormer Windows, high-gradient roofs or modern properties.

Plain Tiles come in Smoothfaced or Sandfaced finishes. Smoothfaced tiles will shed water more quickly and easily, whereas the rougher texture of Sandfaced tiles will retain more moisture, attract lichen and weather more rapidly whilst remaining waterfast. The weathering characteristics of Sandfaced tiles are perfect for an aged look to a heritage building, whereas Smoothfaced offer a cleaner profile. Colour and interest can be added to Plain Tile roofs by tiling in bands and mixing in ornamental tiles. Ornamental tiles are common in Victorian architecture and are used to add interest to large expanses of roof or vertical cladding. They are often used either in a series of bands or in diamond shapes. Whilst Ornamental tiles and Plain tiles in a matching colour and finish offer a subtle shaped feature, a striking contrast between Ornamental tiles in a different colour from the main Plain tile make for a stunning architectural statement. Based on traditional designs, Profile Pantiles are interlocking clay or concrete tiles which give a distinctive ridged look to your roof. They are available in a range of patterns, colours and finishes to compliment the look of your property.

Brand New Roofing has a wealth of knowledge and experience using the various roof coverings available, and will be there with the support and expertise you need to get the best from your property and your project.

FINISHING MATERIALS
To compliment the wide range of roof coverings on the market there is an equal array of matching or contrasting finishing materials, as well as feature materials that offer specific attributes such as windows, vents, and decorative tiles & ridges. Decorative Ridge Tiles come in an array of colours, finishes and profiles and can add a striking contrast to a slate or tile roof, or can seamlessly blend in with the main roof to create a subtle theme across roofs within a property. Another handsome option is bespoke handmade lead ridges, with a selection of profile shapes, which can add a distinctive traditional look to a historic property. Brand New Roofing produces all its’ lead finishing materials on site, cutting, shaping and welding basic rolled lead sheeting to fashion weather-proof seams, collars & joins to the specific needs of the roof. Decorative Finials come in a range of characteristic designs from stylish fleur-de-lys to distinctive character gargoyles and can provide the perfect statement ornament at the apex of a roof, pinnacle, canopy, or similar structure in a building.

Velux Roof Windows and Dormer windows can open up an existing roof space, providing vital light and giving a dusty forgotten attic a new lease of life. This is a clever and cost effective way to add additional living space to a home, providing extra bedrooms or offices to existing buildings and greatly enhancing the desirability and resale value of the property. Sun Tunnels bring additional light to upstairs rooms / spaces without large roof areas. Available in a range of finishes, including a Conservation Range to remain within Conservation Area Guidelines, Velux windows are a smart way to supplement your family home without the cost of a larger property and inconvenience of moving address. In properties where traditional wall vents and roof chimneys are undesirable or prohibited, all vent extraction can be routed through the roofspace using various types of vent and flue, with hand cut tiles or slates to finish seamlessly and blend with the rest of the roof.
